Dr. Bud has spoken to over 100 Virginia Tech alumni chapters from Washington, D.C. to San Diego, California.

During 44 years of teaching at Virginia Tech, his elective course on the Civil War attracted more than 22,000 students.

At one time, Dr. Bud had one of the nation's largest private collections of Civil War books. The bulk of the 7000 volume collection has been donated to Virginia Tech and Randolph-Macon College.
